Head Teacher Welcome

  Message from Head Teacher:

Dear Visitor

Welcome to the website of Rawcliffe Bridge Primary School.

Although we have a Victorian building, which first opened in 1878, it has been extensively modernised and has excellent modern technological resources. However, we do not want to lose the character and history of our building and so you can still see where the fireplaces were and the strong beams in the ceiling. The main teaching building is Victorian and houses four classrooms and the very modern ICT suite.

The house, which was built for the headmistress, later became the caretaker’s house and is now the school’s administration block and also has the library. To the back of the Victorian building we have a large hall, kitchen and dining room. Behind the hall we have a very large field, which is enjoyed by all the children. During the winter when we have a good fall of snow we enjoy building snowmen on the field and in the spring, when it rains we often have a family of ducks who take up residence for a few days.

Our Nursery opened in September 2009. If your child will be three years old before 1st September 2010 then please call at the school office and we will be happy to show you around our school. The nursery will take children in at the start of each term after their third birthday. The Nursery (3 yrs old) and Reception (4 yrs old) children benefit from a large bright classroom with an exciting outdoor play area.

Visitors to our school comment on the friendly atmosphere; the well-mannered children and the beautiful displays, which promote learning and celebrate achievement.

Rawcliffe Bridge Primary School is a small village school, which offers each child a broad and exciting curriculum. Because the school has a small number of children in each year group it can offer very individualised learning. The recent Ofsted Inspection reported that “ The rich and rewarding curriculum encourages children to look outwards to the world. Very close attention is paid to English, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) but not at the expense of other subjects. The school is developing a creative and thematic approach which is promoting enjoyment and encouraging pupils to be more independent in their learning.”

The school’s SATs results since 2005 have shown the steady improvement of standards of attainment. Our school compares favourably with other schools in the locality. The most recent Ofsted inspection, June 2009, judged the school to be good with outstanding aspects. The report highlights the good achievement our children make and the outstanding care, guidance and support we give to our children.

The school is very aware that Every Child Matters; this is at the heart of the school aims.
